Educating and influencing strategies
Helping policy makers understand the importance of workforce development and the critical mission that the workforce investment system and its partners design are critical tasks that CWA undertakes on behalf of its members.
CWA Principles for WIA Reauthorization
Workforce development is a critical policy issue for California and the nation and requires sufficient investment of resources to develop a highly competitive and effective system. Workforce development has enabled communities and regions to retain and grow their key industry sectors, and has provided opportunities for workers to develop the necessary skills needed to prosper in a changing economy while supporting the economic competitiveness of businesses. The California Workforce Association developed and adopted the key principles to guide elected leaders and other stakeholders in crafting the public policy cornerstones that support the development of a highly competitive and effective workforce development system.
Workforce Investment Works: Working for California
CWA has partnered with the National Association of Workforce Boards (NAWB) to tailor its Workforce Investment Works campaign specifically for California. The Workforce Investment Works – Working for California campaign is a storytelling website with sophisticated back-end functionality to upload customer testimonials, success stories and workforce innovations, along with capacity-building storytelling toolkits that serve to 1) help California understand the value proposition of workforce-funded programs and services; 2) generate support of workforce funding through social media; and 3) build the capacity of workforce stakeholders to utilize consistent messages with their local elected officials and the news media, and raise awareness around the repercussions of cutting workforce funding.
This educational platform provides stakeholders of the California workforce investment system with an opportunity to build a business case in support of workforce funding.
