Allied Health Careers Guidebook for Youth
Early last month, the U.S. Department of Labor announced the release of the Allied Health Access Guidebook: How to Develop Programs for Youth in Allied Health Careers guidebook. The Guidebook is intended to provide a useful tool for program planners as they begin to assess the potential for an allied health program in their area, develop a progra, and implement a plan. In addition, the Guidebook includes a checklist that may prove useful to youth service providers and planners as they begin to think about what is need to start an allied health program in their community.
2009 California Youth@Work BookThe American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 provided funding for local Workforce Investment Boards to provide a Summer Youth Employment Programs for at-risk youth. The following report includes a snapshot of California Youth@Work programs and participants from each of the 49 Workforce Investment Boards in California. Over 50,000 youth were employed in California during Summer 2009. The Workforce Investment Act provides the foundation through its system of Workforce Investment Boards and One-Stop Career Centers to address the workforce needs of all companies, both large and small. After twelve years of implementing the 1998 law in regions throughout California, much has been learned about what works and also about what can be done statutorily to better focus the system envisioned by Congress. The following report details CWA's WIA reauthorization recommendations.
