Dwight Brydie Scholarship

Application Process Closed.

The Dwight Brydie Scholarship has become an integral part of the Youth Conference, and this year, we will once again offer youth program participants the opportunity to win a $1000 scholarship to further their studies. Youth must be sponsored by a youth serving agency and be a participant in a youth program.

Dwight Brydie, a longstanding employee of the Employment Development Department, was a committed & passionate advocate for youth, prior to his untimely death in January 2006. Dwight understood the need to and value of reaching youth on the youth level. To honor his memory, CWA and the Youth Development Research Fund have established a scholarship program in his name.  Funding to support the scholarship(s) come from donations. The number of scholarships we are able to award each year depend on the amount of money donated to the Fund.  We anticipate that we will be able to offer two or more scholarships of $1000 each in 2012.

We are only accepting applications from youth who are in a year-round program. Youth who were in Summer Youth programs only are not eligible.  Youth must be between the ages of 16 and 21 to apply.

Please help us get the word out about the Dwight Brydie Scholarship!  Even the application process provides a good learning experience for all who take the time to complete it. Scholarship winners will be introduced and honored at a luncheon on Wednesday, January 18, 2012.

The luncheon has become  a moving and inspiring tradition at the Youth Conference, and has a significant impact on the youth recipients.

Please follow instructions and be aware of our deadline, November 30, 2011.

CWA WIA Reauthorization Recommendations

The Workforce Investment Act provides the foundation through its system of Workforce Investment Boards and One-Stop Career Centers to address the workforce needs of all companies, both large and small. After twelve years of implementing the 1998 law in regions throughout California, much has been learned about what works and also about what can be done statutorily to better focus the system envisioned by Congress. The following report details CWA's WIA reauthorization recommendations.
