IMMIGRANT PROJECT
Faces of Our Future:
Maximizing the Skills and Talents of California's Immigrants
Most stable and successful companies invest in the development of succession plans and contingency plans. In fact, to not develop these plans is to risk the long term survival of business. Almost all of California’s workforce growth between 2005 and 2030 is likely to come from immigrants and their children. (CCSCE report) Does California have a plan to develop and capitalize on the skills and talents of our immigrant population? Are California's publlic systems equipped to quickly assimilate immigrants into jobs in the new economy? Are there sufficient strategies to teach English in the workplace? To address these and other questions about integrating immigrants into the California workforce, CWA has launched a new initiative: Faces of Our Future.
Our purpose is to to help ensure that California's businesses get the skilled workers they need and that California's immigrants get the education and training that will prepare them for work. We will focus on the public workforce system, to help them address the needs of immigrants and prepare them for career pathways that will allow them to support themselves, their families and their communities. We will create needed dialogue to promote sound public policy that affects immigrants in the workplace; and we will develop an "Integration Plan" with recommendations to the State Legislature and Administration.
